Continuing the Holocaust into Today - Register Now!

A professional development workshop led by Dr. Mary Johnson, international speaker on the Holocaust and other current day genocides is planned for January 25, 2011. Dr. Johnson was an editor of Facing History, Facing Ourselves.


Embracing Our Differences: Teacher Professional Development Workshop

(November 2010) Youth Experiencing Art, Inc., the Sarasota County School Board, and the Van Wezel in partnership with the Kennedy Center Partners In Education present; Acceptance Of Differences: Developing Diversity Quotes, a workshop with Amy MacDonald, Kennedy Center Teaching Artist, children’s author and writing coach, for the 2011 Embracing Our Differences event.

40 teachers attended this workshop to learn how to expand the experience into the classroom and help students write succinct, impactful quotes. Amy MacDonald’s workshop was a feature in the Herald Tribune tabloid on diversity, printed for 10,000 students and delivered to their classrooms. Teachers will submit their students’ quotes to the Embracing Our Differences exhibit in April 2011.

Teacher Professional Development Workshop (October 2010):

(October 2010) Kennedy Center Partners in Education Professional Development Workshop conducted by national teaching artist, Judy Thibault Klevins.  The curriculum-based workshop taught the teachers how to implement the project’s main theme Exploring Points of View Through Drama: Walking in Another’s Shoes. Ms. Klevins modeled her work in 2 middle schools the following day.

40 teachers attended this workshop to learn how to expand the experience into the classroom.
